The Faces of Easter

WONDERING QUESTIONS:
■ I   wonder what part of this whole story you like best?

■ I wonder what part of the whole story is the most important part?

■ I wonder where are you in this whole story? What part of the story is especially about you?

"Faces of Easter" is a Godly Play story from volume four.  Lent is the season in which we prepare for Easter. This lesson helps children prepare for the Mystery of Easter. The mystery of Easter is so big it takes six weeks to get ready.  We move toward the Mystery by selecting  and retelling  six stories of Christ’s journey toward the cross and resurrection.

There are seven  plaques to help us tell the following stories about Jesus:  His birth,  visiting Jerusalem on Passover with His family, His baptism, His travels in the wilderness,  meeting Bartimaeus, His parable of the coin, the last supper, His crucifixion and His resurrection.    When we remember that Jesus died on the cross for us, we also remember that he is still with us. That is the Mystery of Easter. It includes all the sadness and happiness that could ever be. That is why the mystery is so huge, yet it  ends with a new beginning!

The Young Children and Worship book offers a different set of stories to present  during Lent.

Stories from Jesus' Journey & the Resurrection

1. Jesus Birth

We invite you to ask these wondering questions at the end of this video clip:
  • I wonder if anyone in this family was ever born? I wonder what that amazing day was like?  (Take this opportunity to tell birth stories as a family.)
  • I wonder if there is anything in our house that we could bring to this story to help us tell it better? (Bring baby photos, perhaps figures from your nativity set, etc.)

  • I wonder if there is anything in your house that you could bring to this story to help us tell it better?
