Easter Science Event

Sunday, 4/12/2020
10:00AM

FLYING EASTER EGGS!

Children are invited to enjoy the science of simple machines and launch Easter Eggs!  North Scottsdale UMC is hosting an Easter Science Event on Sunday, April 12th at 10:00am only.  The Mad Machines Easter Science event will begin in the fellowship hall with the Easter story.  Then  the Mad Scientists will present the experiments.  At the end of the presentation all student will receive an Easter goody-bag filled with treats.  This FREE event is open to all children ages 3-12. Youth (ages 13-18) are invited to assist with the program experiments.

Experiment Summary:
Children discover how simple machines make our lives easier.  They will learn about the six different types of simple machines: the screw, lever, inclined plane, wedge, pulley, and wheel and axle.  Children launch with levers, secure with screws and works with wedges through hands-on activities!  A large children-operated pulley system demonstration will show how pulleys help us move heavy objects easily.  Children will apply their new found mechanical knowledge by building a drag racer.

Education Value:
Mad Machines Event will introduce basic physical science.  Children will investigate mechanics and the role that they play in our everyday lives.  Children will learn about forces and discover that simple machines make work easier by allowing us to push and pull less strenuously, but over a longer distance,  They will extend this concept at home using the knowledge that they will learn.

Take-Home Message:
Simple machines make work easier.
The six simple machines are the screw, lever, inclined plane, wedge, pulley and wheel and axle.
All complex machines have simple machines in them.

Some say that “pigs can fly!", but it’s nothing like the Flying Easter Eggs that they will experience at this event!

PLEASE NOTE; The "Easter Science Event"  will ONLY occur during our 10:00am service.  We will have an 8:30am Sunday School class for ages 3-12 and that lesson will be about the Easter Story (no science).  Students at both services will receive an Easter goodie bag.
