It takes more to prepare for the special experience of Easter. There's a bigger "getting ready time" to allow us a time to reflect. A time to comprehend the enormity of the Father allowing his Son to come among us and share human frailty. Then he allowed His son to give his life for us. It is a concept that is overwhelming for any person, at any age.
The extra weeks of Lent give us time to prepare for and comprehend this huge concept. They also give us an annual "review window" for our faith journey. What area of our life do we need to reflect on? What activity, emotion, or obsession do we need to review? How do we include the Father in these choices? Lent doesn't allow us to glance at it and move on. We have a month and a half to reflect. Six weeks to find patience with ourselves to prepare to make healthy observations and possibly changes.
God doesn't always give us what we think we want. He does give us the virtues of patience, kindness, humility, faith, hope and of course, love. If these virtues are strong in our relationship with God, they will be strong in our relationship with others. Be patient with yourself and praise God for this extra "getting ready time" during this Lenten season!
