A New Year Reflection!
While it's a good idea to take a look at our spiritual walk throughout the year, January 1st is often a time of reflection and renewal. A New Year, a new start. Instead of setting the annual resolutions like losing weight, being more organized, etc., why not consider setting goals to improve our relationship with God?
Improve Your Prayer Life
Simple enough, right? Just get better at praying. Why doesn't it feel that easy? A lot of us make this resolution and soon fail, because we take too big of a first step. If we're not used to praying often, jumping into an active prayer life can be a daunting task. Maybe start off praying each morning when we get up, or even while we brush our teeth. Start off giving five minutes to God. Then maybe we can try adding another five minutes. Soon we find that we start going to God more often and for more things. Don't worry about what to talk to Him about, just talk. The results can be amazing!
Read Your Bible in a Year
Getting into the habit of reading the Word is also a common New Year's resolution for many of us. It just takes discipline to open up the book every night. Maybe the goal shouldn't be to read the entire Bible, but rather use the year to focus on a specific topic or area of our life that we want God to give us wisdom.
Help Other People
God calls on us throughout the Bible to do good works. Helping others is part of a healthy Christian walk. Our North Scottsdale UMC mission committee has many activities for us to help with or even take the lead. There are so many ways to lend a hand. We can always begin with just sharing random acts of kindness. Please check out more random acts of kindness here: http://www.pinterest.com/nscottsdaleumc/random-acts-of-kindness/
Join a class
Learning about scripture and sharing your faith journey is an essential part of everyone's Christian walk because it keeps our head in God's Word. North Scottsdale UMC has many classes, so it is easy to find one that fits your interest, or your place of spiritual growth.
