Just last weekend, the youth at North Scottsdale UMC went to Rocky Point, Mexico to build a home for a family in need. They spent four days laying cement, framing, roofing and stuccoing. They worked outside in the sun. Their team work, dedication and spirit was exhilarating.
The process connected families from two countries. Strangers with a commitment to support a family in need. They created a place where a family can support, grow, learn, pray with each other. They created a shelter from the elements. Together all of the families created a home.
This process allowed parents to work with their children. It allowed children and youth to work with their counter parts from a foreign country. This process allowed God's work to happen.
In another part of the United States, there is a little girl. A little girl who planted a garden. It's not a garden for herself or her family but it's for other families in need.
Her name is Hailey and her project is called Hailey's Harvest. She wants to reach out to families who don't have as much as she does. After she is finishes with her school day and her homework, she plants, tills, weeds and harvests food to give to others. She started out just wanting to help and her mission has grown to a goal of harvesting 150 pounds of food to give to those who are hungry.
Some people don't think they have a talent worth sharing. These children didn't think about their gifts and talents, they just shared.
