Abram & Sarai
This story is from the Young Children & Worship book and it is very similar to the Godly Play "The Great Family" story in the Godly Play book. It shares the Genesis stories from chapters 12 and 13.
Recreate a family tree...
Explain genealogy to your students. Explain how Jesus' lineage is connected to Abraham. Then let the students recreate their own family tree.
Reconstruct the setting.
Allow your students to recreate the setting of this story. Include the characters and the tent.
Make an origami tent.
The children heard the story of how Moses led the people of God out of the Pharaoh's trap of slavery. They learned about why they had to eat unleavened bread (matzoh) and how it is different from the bread we have in communion. They learned how to recreate a hut that they could travel with. They made their Sukkah hut.
The Godly Play Story.
Watching these videos is a great way to prepare for the lesson. This video is the Godly Play story of "The Great Family," and it shares many of the same story elements.
He took him outside and said, "Look up at the sky and count the stars--if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."
