The students in our 4th-5th grade Sunday School class learned about the Apostles Creed during Sunday School throughout the month of November and on Sunday, November 12th, 2017, they shared what they learned.
Here are a couple factoids to help you keep up with your students:
The word "creed" comes from a Latin word which means "I believe...." Creeds are statements of what we believe. There are three major creeds used in the Christian Church: The Apostles' Creed, The Nicene Creed, and The Athanasian Creed. Each of these creeds is based completely on the Bible's teaching regarding God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In a simple, basic manner, these three creeds describe the Christian Faith. The Apostles' Creed is the shortest creed. It was not written by the Apostles. It was written almost 300 years after the Apostles; this creed is called the Apostles' Creed because it expresses the Apostles' faith.
Methodists use the The Apostles' Creed as part of their baptismal rites in the form of an interrogatory addressed to the candidate(s) for baptism and the whole congregation as a way of professing the faith within the context of the Church's sacramental act. For infants, it is the professing of the faith by the parents, sponsors, and congregation on behalf of the candidate(s); for confirmands, it is the professing of the faith before and among the congregation. For the congregation, it is a reaffirmation of their professed faith.
Do you believe in God?
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ?
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

23rd Psalm Milestone 2016 for grades 3-5
Our third through fifth grade students will be learning about the 23rd Psalm this school year. Psalm 23 is one of the most well-known and often-quoted psalms in the Bible. Its message of comfort and reassurance is welcome at any time in life. Our Sunday School students will learn about how David wrote about the Lord as his shepherd and about himself as the sheep.
As we think about what it means that God shepherds His people and look forward to John 10, where Jesus talks about laying down His life for His sheep, we are reminded that we are all sheep who have gone astray and need the faithful guidance of a Good Shepherd. We will celebrate this 3rd-5th grade milestone on Sunday , Nov. 13th during the 10:00 a.m. service with the children and their Sunday School teachers. |
Fruit of the Spirit Milestone 2015
The 3rd through 5th grade Sunday School classes lerned about the "Fruit of the Spirit" this fall. They celebrated their knowledge of love, joy. peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness and self-control on Sunday, Nov. 8th during the 10am service. Part of their classroom learning included making a wooden apple trivet and painting the Fruit of the Spirit words onto the trivet.
